Join us this Pride Month for a screening of Badnaam Basti (1971), regarded as India’s first queer film, restored nearly 50 years after it was believed lost forever.
Directed by Prem Kapoor, this groundbreaking Hindi drama explores bisexuality, intimacy, longing, and chosen family with a tenderness rarely seen in Indian cinema of its time. Through experimental visuals and radical storytelling, Badnaam Basti challenges the norms of mainstream narratives and reminds us that queer lives, desires, and histories have always existed even when erased, censored, or forgotten.
