Queer Short films screening and discussion

About this event

Welcome Creators and Cinephiles!

Qynship is launching the queer film movement in Chennai to bring together creators, artists, LGBT+ communities, cinephiles and allies to start a movement to initiate a dialog and include LGBT+ stories in our culture and communities through queer film screenings and discussions.

For our first edition of this movement, we are delighted to showcase National Award winning filmmaker - Soumyajit Ghosh Dastidar's retrospective on 11th July 2026 (Saturday) from 5.30 pm onwards.

He Joining (virtually) and his film crew members will be available to take Q&A and will interact with the audience members.

About the filmmaker:
Soumyajit Ghosh Dastidar, 30, is a writer and filmmaker hailing from Durgapur, West Bengal. He completed his post-graduation in Direction and Screenplay Writing from the Film and Television Institute of India in 2023. His keen interest lies in tracing the remnants of history and culture, and in the oddities of magic in the everyday world. He also likes telling deeply personal stories that explore psychologically complex human relationships through a lens that focuses on understanding gender and sexuality. For his diploma film Flowering Man (2023), Soumyajit was awarded the Swarna Kamal for Best Non-Feature Film at the 71st National Film Awards.

Short films those are getting screened:
1. Taap (Marathi, 10 mins) - Inside an old hammam, now set up as a spa, an elderly masseuse, Avani, reflects her long gone brother on Shantanu. But Huzaifa has to leave soon, the aroma of the spa has started suffocating him. Shantanu is left craving for his touch. As a sense of touch lingers through all of their bodies, the purple light reflects on the hot spring water and Shantanu's flower painted body dances to a mythical story of a chameleon.
